Sweden Creek Treehouse
Madison County, Arkansas
Completed Fall 2021
This treehouse was built for a couple who had a clear vision: a comfortable but simple off-grid structure to enjoy on weekends and holidays with room for visits from their college-age son. The result was a 16’x16’ open plan space with an 8’x10’ loft. Elegant, clean, and weatherproof, the treehouse was built on a slope that hides the structure from view, making it completely private. A breezeway connects the insulated main structure to an outbuilding that houses the composting toilet. Initially the treehouse was only accessible via footpath (which made construction challenging but fun), but plans are in the works to carefully cut a driveway around the many trees. The structure is half tree-supported, with anchor bolts on two mature oaks, and half post-supported. The interior is unfinished birch plywood and the exterior is locally sourced cypress, with a reclaimed hand-carved wooden door that is everyone’s favorite detail.
